Have cybersquatters violated your company’s brand? Are you seeking remedy options?
Corporation Service Company® (CSC) can help you protect yourself against future brand abuse, but if you are already a victim, there are several U.S. Federal Acts with “teeth” that can help you handle cyber-rogue offenses:

1. The Lanham Act protects you against "pre-sale" confusion where infringement will attract a potential customer based on the reputation of the owner of the trademark. This can involve the use of another's domain name, or the implanting of well-known trademarks in meta tags, text, and hidden text in a competitor’s Web site to cause the competitor's Web site to show up in search results.

2. The Anti-Cybersquatting Consumer Protection Act (ACPA) prohibits cybersquatting, ransoming domain names, offering domain names that incorporate someone else's trademark for sale to the public, diverting traffic to incompatible or undesirable sites, warehousing well-known trademark domain names, and engaging in acts of consumer fraud.

3. The Copyright Act 17 USC 101-810 gives the owner of a copyrighted work the exclusive right to reproduce, distribute, perform, display, or license the work.

4. The Digital Millennium Copyright Act provides a means for expeditiously halting copyright infringement on the Internet, and includes a method for notifying Internet Service Providers of infringing copyrighted works on hosted Web sites to facilitate removal.

5. The Truth in Domain Names Act, enacted in 2002, criminalizes deceptive domain names with obscene content

Domain News

.US and .BIZ - The .US and .BIZ registries have just announced that, effective immediately, the requirement that each IP address in a name server may only have one associated host name has been relaxed. It is now possible to create multiple hosts using the same IP address. Currently, there are no restrictions on the number of host names that may be associated with a particular IP address.

Please pass this information on to your technical team and remember this change applies only to .BIZ and .US domain name registrations.
